Turning a job description into a tailored skill evaluation is one of the most powerful features on Ref Hub. Instead of spending hours writing test questions, you can simply copy and paste your existing Job Description (JD). Our AI Assessment Builder will analyze the role's requirements and automatically generate role-specific, validated questions to accurately test your candidates.

Here is how to use the AI to build a custom test straight from your JD:

Step 1: Navigate to the AI Test Builder

  • Log in to the Ref Hub portal at portal.refhub.com.au/auth/login.
  • From the Wizard Dashboard: If you are on the assessment onboarding screen, click Try the builder → under the Generate from a JD option.
  • From the Assessments Page: Go to the Custom Test tab, click + Build New Test, and select Generate AI Test. Then click Create.

Step 2: Input the Test Parameters

Before pasting your job description, fill out the basic structural details of the test in the Let's get started modal:

  • Test Name: Enter a clear title for the test (e.g., "Senior Frontend Developer Evaluation").
  • Industry & Test Category: Select the relevant fields from the dropdown menus to help the AI map core competencies to the correct domain.
  • Difficulty Level: Set the tier to Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced to align question complexity with the seniority of your role.
  • No. of Questions: Specify exactly how many questions you want the AI to generate.

Step 3: Paste Your Job Description (JD)

  • Locate the large text box at the bottom of the modal labeled Test purpose (or paste Job Description).
  • Copy the core responsibilities, technical requirements, or key performance indicators from your internal JD document and paste them here.
  • Tip: The text box supports up to 1,000 characters. Focus on pasting the "Requirements," "Skills Needed," or "Core Duties" sections to get the highest-quality, most targeted questions.

Step 4: Generate the AI Assessment

  • Once all fields are complete and your JD text is in place, click the blue Build Test button in the bottom right corner.
  • Ref Hub's AI will instantly process the text, extract key competencies (such as technical proficiency, behavioral traits, and situational logic), and draft a complete template populated with multiple-choice or short-answer questions.

Step 5: Review and Publish

Your automatically generated questions will load directly into the manual builder canvas.

  • Review & Tweak: Go through the AI-generated questions to ensure you are happy with the wording. You can edit any questions, change answer choices, or delete anything that doesn't quite fit.
  • Set the Clock: Enter your preferred time limit in the Test Duration (In minutes) field at the top of the screen.
  • Add Extras (Optional): If you want to add a couple of your own hyper-specific questions, you can drag and drop additional question fields from the left-hand Questions Library panel.
  • Publish: Click Publish when you are ready!

The test will save directly to your account so you can set your passing thresholds, package it into an active assessment layout, and send it straight to your applicants.
